What began as a potentially promising New York Giants season (or at least, fun) already feels like it's come crashing down. Second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart's season-ending knee injury is, quite obviously, a devastating blow to what the rebuilding Giants and first-year head coach John Harbaugh wanted to accomplish. The franchise isn't just going to lay down over its final 15 games, but it's hard to see a still-flawed Giants team playing much of any meaningful or exciting football without its most important player taking snaps.

Harbaugh himself acknowledged this unfortunate, pretty bleak reality after it was announced that Dart would soon undergo surgery. If Harbaugh was trying to sound optimistic in his assessment, he failed. But I don't think he was trying to sound optimistic. The man lost his starting quarterback with almost four months of probably irrelevant football left on the table. Honestly, that sounds like a slog even just reading that sentence back.
I don't blame him one bit for letting some good old-fashioned nihilism seep out.

It breaks your heart, but the world keeps spinning, huh? That's almost tantamount to saying "Nothing matters anyway, keep charging ahead." If the awful news about Dart wasn't enough for Harbaugh, Wednesday was also the coach's 64th birthday.
Woof. I'm extremely positive Harbaugh has had better birthdays/birthday weeks.
Who will start at quarterback for the Giants with Jaxson Dart out?
Jameis Winston will likely take the most snaps for the Giants moving forward, but Harbaugh didn't rule out bringing in competition and a possible trade later on:

If Winston plays as badly as he did against the Los Angeles Rams this past Monday night, something tells me the Giants will have much more urgency to bring in a new offensive signal-caller.
