Man Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Nebraska Football Helmets from Locker Room

A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing helmets and clothing from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s football team.
According to 1011 News Now and KETV, a member of the university’s staff reported that four helmets were missing from the facilities on Sept. 17.

Brett Powers, a former Cornhuskers employee who quit in March, was allegedly seen on closed-circuit television footage recorded on Aug. 21, according to the outlets. The video allegedly showed Powers using a card reader to unlock the door at the Osborne Legacy Complex and emerging with two white Husker football helmets and four black helmets.

He was allegedly seen entering the facilities on Sept. 2 and Sept. 9 in CCTV footage, according to the outlets. Footage is said to have shown Powers entering the equipment room, where he removed items of clothing and a couple of Adidas duffle bags.
According to 1011 News Now, the helmets are worth $1,500 each.
Powers previously had access to the facilities through his employee card, per KETV, but they were not supposed to be in his possession. He is also accused of entering the stadium and attending football games without a ticket, according to the outlets.

Powers was arrested for felony burglary, and his bond is reportedly set at $15,000, per the outlets. Additionally, he is not permitted back on the university’s campus.
Powers is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 5, according to both outlets.
