The USMNT defeated Chile 4-2 on Tuesday with a balanced attack that featured goals from starters Sebastian Berhalter and Julian Hall, and from substitutes Chris Richards and Mathis Albert, who became the youngest goal scorer in USMNT history. The US would scored the opener in the 37th minute as Sergino Dest’s cross across the box was dummied by Julian Hall and slammed home by a wide open Sebastian Berhalter thanks to the deke by Hall. It looked like the US would go into the half with a lead but in the final moments of the first half a scramble in front of goal led to Chile finding an opener. Chris Brady was subbed at the half as Brian Schwake became the fourth keeper this international break to get 45’ in goal. Mauricio Pochettino has clearly thrown the doors wide open in the keeper competition. However, there wasn’t much clarity tonight as each keeper gave up a goal, with Chile taking the lead shortly into the second half. The US would pull level moments later as Julian Hall scored his second goal in two matches with a glancing header in the 51st minute.
The subs began in earnest in the 61st minute as the US made five changes, including Chris Richards who would score the third goal of the evening for the US. Damion Downs and Mathis Albert were subbed on in the 71st minute, and Cavan Sullivan became the final substitute in the 83rd.

It looked like the match would finish 3-2 but Mathis scored the fourth goal of the night for the US in the third minute of stoppage time, just before things nearly went sideways in the final moments of the match as both benches cleared after the Chilean forward took a poke at Schawke on the ground after he had collected a harmless ball through. Thankfully, calmer heads prevailed and the final whistle was blown just after the ball was put back in play with only a couple yellow cards being shown.
There were four different goal scorers, and seven different goal contributors not to mention some nice passages of play building to some nice opportunities.
