When former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin stepped down after 19 seasons in Pittsburgh, fans assumed he would spend his downtime analyzing game film or prepping for his new NBC Sports broadcasting role. Nobody expected him to release a 19-minute YouTube video showcasing a massive, hyper-detailed Minecraft city he spent 12 years quietly constructing across multiple console generations. The video went viral overnight, leaving the entire football world astonished by the coach’s virtual craftsmanship.
Among those completely dumbfounded was former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell. Reacting on X to a clip highlighting the intricate interior design of high-rise apartments inside Tomlin’s metropolis, Bell delivered a hilarious response that swept across social media: “we were tryna win super bowls and coach T was on minecraft building cities.”Bell’s joke hit a funny note, especially given the history of those Pittsburgh rosters.

Between 2013 and 2017, Bell formed a core part of the high-flying “Killer B’s” offense alongside star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and wide receiver Antonio Brown. During his 62 regular-season games with Pittsburgh, Bell generated elite production, racking up 5,336 rushing yards, 2,660 receiving yards, and 42 total touchdowns.
In the 2016 postseason, he set a single-game playoff franchise record by rushing for 170 yards on 30 carries in an 18-16 divisional round win against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Despite that individual brilliance and heavy offensive workload, Pittsburgh never reached the Super Bowl during Bell’s tenure. Tomlin explained that his Minecraft metropolis originally started on PlayStation 3 as a simple way to connect with his children before turning into a full-blown side passion. While the Steelers fell short of Lombardi trophies during those high-powered years, Tomlin at least secured an undisputed championship-level achievement in the digital world.
