Bloodied Caitlin Clark shows frustration with no-call on rebound in Fever loss to Aces

LAS VEGAS — The series between the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces grew increasingly physical and intense, and in an elimination game it led to a bloodied Caitlin Clark.
With 3:18 left, Clark jumped for a rebound as Jewell Loyd reached up next to her. As Loyd was coming down, her right arm struck Clark in the mouth, causing her upper gums to bleed on the left side of her mouth.

Clark leaned over on the ground before exiting up the tunnel. She returned to the floor and, after a brief pep talk from coach Stephanie White, ran straight to the official to show her bleeding gums and ask why it wasn't reviewed. In doing so, it led to her having to get further treatment to clean blood off her hands before play resumed.
While Clark's frustration was clear, what the official responded with was not. When asked postgame, Clark shared her frustration in so few words.
"(Pauses, stares blankly into the ether) Your guess would be as good as mine," Clark said.
At that point, the Fever trailed 82-77 before Kelsey Mitchell hit a 3-pointer to cut it to two. They couldn't pull closer, however, being eliminated by the Aces in a 94-83 loss.
Officiating was a major point of consternation for the Fever throughout Thursday's contest, with the foul differential finishing 27-19 in favor of Las Vegas, which shot 15 additional free throws (35-20).
"The officiating was terrible," White told IndyStar, pointing to the notes she made on her box score denoting the 5-0 foul differential in the third and fourth quarters. "So when you're looking at, they don't foul, but they're in the penalty early in each of those two quarters, of course it slows us down."
Asked how they tried to adjust to the inconsistencies in how the game's physicality was legislated, White said she thought her team did a good job of at least trying to stay disciplined.
"I'm not trying to say we don't foul, because we do. I'm saying that other teams do, too," she said. "It's a hard pill to swallow when you're not getting the foul calls, when there's not a lot of consistency."
