Odell Beckham Jr. has broken his silence on his surprise release from the New York Giants, admitting he felt he “should’ve known better” after the team brought him back this season.

The Giants reunited with their former star this offseason, but Beckham struggled to find a role and was released ahead of Week 4 after playing just 20 offensive snaps without recording a catch.

Beckham had remained quiet since his release until responding to a fan video on Instagram that accused the Giants of using his return as a publicity stunt. The 33-year-old appeared to agree with the sentiment.

Odell Beckham Jr. admits Giants release hurt more than expected

“I’m super smart !!!!” Beckham wrote. “But I didn’t see this one my brotha! They got me!!! They won on top of the money u talkin bout I made them. I came in HUMBLY, took vet min then EARNED my spot n didn’t say nothing bout no (money) which I (know I) make for everybody.”

He later explained that being released was not necessarily what hurt most. Instead, Beckham suggested he was disappointed that he had trusted the situation in New York.

“IDK why they even gave me the run along. I coulda really been playing this year somewhere and making an impact.”

Beckham also revealed that coming home to his son after the release was particularly difficult, with his young child unaware that his father had been let go.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh, however, offered a different explanation for the decision.

“We just weren’t getting enough,” Harbaugh said. “It just wasn’t working for us. Like I told him, I wanted to be able to give more; I wanted him to be able to do more. I wanted to get him on the field more.”

Harbaugh also insisted the decision was not personal, adding: “I hope he lands somewhere. He’s a great friend. I love the guy.”

Beckham has not had a 1,000-yard season since 2019, although he remains one of the most recognisable receivers of his generation. He now faces the task of finding another opportunity after his brief return to New York ended far earlier than expected.
