The 22-year-old moved to the United States of America to pursue his NBA career and since his arrival has been one of the best players in the league. His impact has been global and attracted a lot of French viewers to the NBA.

In light of what has been happening in his home country, Wembanyama was asked his views on the student protest after the Spurs’ first preseason opener, and his answer is what youngsters in France would love to hear.

Wembanyama keen to support French student protest

The French student protest started in the suburbs of Paris, but has now spread nationwide with over 70,000 on the streets of the country.

Wembanyama, who spent his offseason in Paris with his teammates, has always been vocal about political issues, once again offered his support.

“(I have) A lot of interest. I meant it. I was in that position not so long ago. I’ve had the chance to escape this system, escape this trouble. But it’s a chance, it’s luck. So I want to show my support,” said Wembanyama during the press conference after the loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

According to L’Équipe’s Maxime Aubin, Wemby also said: “I’m glad that high school students and young people in general are making themselves heard. Because I hear them and I support them, and I hope that the people way up there will do the same.”

Wembanyama had also spoken up about the French presidential election in August.

“I haven’t looked into the presidential election closely enough, but I’m not afraid to share my opinion, either. I’m not afraid of upsetting people,” said the two-time All-Star.

In about three months, the French star is set to return home as the Spurs will be playing the New Orleans Pelicans in Paris.
