The Memphis Grizzlies are about to tip off against the Chicago Bulls at 8 p.m. EST for their third game of the preseason. However, about an hour before the start of the game, it was revealed that the club will be without center Isaiah Stewart for some time due to a left ankle sprain.

Reports indicate that the 25-year-old will be out for at least the next two weeks, according to insider Brett Siegel. Stewart will be reevaluated at the end of the next two weeks before the club determines his status again, which means he will be unavailable for the opening portion of the regular season.

“Grizzlies big man Isaiah Stewart has a moderate left ankle sprain and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, meaning he will miss the start of the season,” Siegel reported.

Based on the timing of the news, Stewart likely won’t be reevaluated until about October 23. The Grizzlies are scheduled to take on the Golden State Warriors on the road on that day for the second game of the new campaign.

The former first-round pick was acquired by Memphis after the Grizzlies traded for him from the Detroit Pistons during the 2026 NBA Draft. Stewart is expected to play as an immediate backup behind starting center Zach Edey. But the injury will force the team to likely turn to Quinten Post for the time being.

Isaiah Stewart played 58 games for the Pistons last season, serving as a consistent option off the bench, as he finished seventh in the Sixth Man of the Year voting. He ended the 2025-26 campaign averaging 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 55.0% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the three-point line.
