Recognising India's Indigenous Engineering Capabilities
The SIDM Champion Awards recognise Indian companies contributing to the country's defence and aerospace manufacturing ecosystem through technological innovation, indigenous design, import substitution and specialised manufacturing capabilities. A total of 15 Champion Awards were presented in 2026 across categories representing key areas of industrial and technological development.
HHVAT's recognition in the niche technological capability category acknowledges the importance of establishing advanced design, development and manufacturing expertise within India, particularly for technologies that require complex engineering, precision process control and specialised infrastructure.
An Indigenous Solution for Strategic Technology Requirements
The award-winning Dual Ion Beam Sputtering (DIBS) System was developed by HHVAT for the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, to establish domestic capability in advanced oxide thin-film deposition for strategic high-power laser applications.
The company invests 5% of revenue in research and is a DSIR-certified industry, engineering and development of the DIBS system, reflecting its commitment to building specialised technological capabilities in India. The system was developed over a period of 2 years, involving in-house engineering expertise and process development.
Research conducted using the system has demonstrated over 99% optical reflectivity in a specified multilayer coating band, along with high film uniformity and laser-induced damage resistance. The technology has also supported scientific publications and research into semiconductor surface engineering and advanced optical coatings.
By developing this specialised equipment domestically, HHVAT contributes to reducing dependence on imported advanced coating systems and strengthening India's capability to design, manufacture and process-engineer sophisticated scientific equipment.
A Milestone in HHV's Engineering Journey
For over 62 years, HHV Group has contributed to India's technological development through customised vacuum systems, thin-film equipment, precision optics and advanced engineering solutions serving scientific, industrial, defence and aerospace applications.
The SIDM recognition represents an important milestone in this journey, reflecting the company's continued commitment to addressing complex technological requirements through indigenous research, engineering and manufacturing expertise.
Speaking about the recognition, Ms. Smriti Sakhamuri, Executive Director, HHV Advanced Technologies, said:
“This recognition is a proud milestone for HHV Advanced Technologies and reflects our commitment to developing specialised technological capabilities in India. As India strengthens its capabilities across strategic and advanced technology sectors, it is important that Indian companies continue to invest in developing solutions that contribute to scientific progress and technological self-reliance. We are grateful to SIDM for recognising this effort and acknowledge the contributions of our engineering and research teams, whose work has made this achievement possible.”
The recognition reinforces HHVAT's contribution to India's Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India objectives, demonstrating the role of domestic engineering expertise in developing specialised technologies critical to future scientific and strategic applications.
