It's official, the Great 8 is back.

The news comes less than 24 hours after reports from TSN's Darren Dreger suggested that he was hanging up the skates. But now he is back, and the Capitals look like they could be the best team in the entire Metro Division.

It was likely an easy decision for Ovechkin after seeing all the moves that the Capitals have made. They brought in Alex Tuch, Jordan Kyrou and more to help make their team more skilled, faster and deeper. Which was probably always going to be the plan; insulate the roster to give Ovechkin the chance at winning one more Stanley Cup.

Washington broke the news with a video on X that showed the iconic Ovechkin yellow skate laces being tied. Right away, fans knew that this meant he was coming back, and just minutes after that, it was announced.

Ovechkin, 40, is returning for his 22nd NHL, and will look to continue to add on to his all-time goal record. He has 929 goals and 1,687 points in 1,573 games.

If this is going to be his last season in the NHL, the hope is that he gets a very good farewell tour.
