Paul Finebaum on Indiana football: 'I lost so much money betting against Indiana last year'

Indiana football proved so many people wrong on the way to its undefeated national championship in the 2025 season. The Hoosiers cost college football commentator Paul Finebaum even more.

"I was stupid enough on one of these interviews last August to say, 'If the SEC can't beat the Big Ten this year, I'm leaving the country,'" he said this week on the "Dan Patrick Show." "I lost so much money betting against Indiana last year, I didn't have enough money to leave the country."

Finebaum spent much of the past two seasons downplaying IU's success, considering its performance for most of its history. Despite their 27-2 record in two seasons under coach Curt Cignetti, the Hoosiers have the second-most loses in major college football history.

The Big Ten has won the past three national championships (Michigan in the 2023 season, Ohio State in '24, and IU), convincing Finebaum, a major voice in SEC circles for decades.

"I'm not making that claim anymore. Quite frankly, I jumped off the Titanic," Finebaum said. "I'm no longer saying that the SEC is the best conference. The Big Ten is the best conference."
