The New York Mets’ fire sale continued deep into Sunday night, as they followed up their trade of Freddy Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays earlier in the day with a deal with the Chicago White Sox involving relief pitcher Huascar Brazoban. As per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Mets acquired two pitching prospects from the White Sox, Gabe Davis and Zach Franklin, in the Brazoban trade.

Brazoban has performed well for the Mets amid their disastrous 2026 campaign. He made 45 appearances for New York this year (39 relief appearances, six starts), and he recorded an ERA of 2.61. He will be providing some solid middle relief for the White Sox, and he could even step in and make some starts for Chicago, although operating as an opener may not be in the cards for him with his new ballclub.

Already 36 years of age, Brazoban began his big-league career in 2022. He spent 2018-2021 outside of the MLB ecosystem and remade himself into the relief pitcher he is now.

The best part of this trade for the White Sox is that Brazoban is a cost-controlled reliever who’s been consistently solid in the big leagues. The White Sox will have him under team control until 2029, so they are not simply acquiring a rental.

For the Mets, they managed to acquire the 18th-ranked prospect in the White Sox’s system in Davis (as per MLB.com). Davis’ surface stats in Double-A aren’t the best (5.81 ERA, 3.48 walks per nine, 1.74 home runs allowed per nine), but he has good zip on his fastball which makes his slider all the more devastating. Worst-case scenario, Davis has the stuff to perform off the bullpen.

Franklin, the other prospect the Mets acquired, is a reliever down in Triple-A. He’s sporting a 4.37 ERA in 45.1 innings. Both Davis and Franklin could be up on the big-league squad by the end of this season, especially if New York moves even more of their pitching corps during their massive roster sell-off.
