One day removed from saying he’d most likely make his NFL debut in the Philadelphia Eagles’ clash against the Washington Commanders, rookie tight end Eli Stowers has instead been ruled out for Week 1 with a hamstring injury that will send him to IR for at least the first four weeks of the season.
Breaking the news on social media, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo revealed that Stowers is also experiencing issues with his quad and, as a result, will end up having to wait until at least October for his NFL debut.
“The Eagles downgraded rookie TE Eli Stowers (hamstring) to out. He’d been listed as questionable. He was also placed on IR so he’s out the first four weeks,” Garafolo wrote.

“Stowers was telling reporters yesterday he was confident he’d play to being placed on IR with a quad injury added to the previously listed hamstring. The Eagles’ second-rounder’s debut will have to wait a bit.”
Arguably the most exciting tight end in the country in 2025 during his second and final season at Vanderbilt, Stowers’ transition to the NFL level hasn’t been as smooth as some might have hoped, with PhillyVoice’s Jimmy Kempski famously calling him “unplayable” based on his efforts in practice. While that certainly isn’t the evaluation most fans were expecting from a do-it-all offensive weapon who racked up 1,890 all-purpose yards over his college career, in the end, Stowers only really has to prove it when the live bullets begin to fly, which, unfortunately, won’t be for at least the next four weeks.
