Vikings QB listed among top 100 'most important' players in 2026

When the Minnesota Vikings dipped into free agency and brought in Kyler Murray on a one-year deal, it was viewed as purely competition for J.J. McCarthy for the starting quarterback spot. However, the belief is that the job already belongs to Murray. While we wait to see what the official verdict is on the starting nod for 2026, we do have insight to his importance.

According to Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports, who recently ranked the top 100 most important players in the NFL, Murray ranks as the top "Quarterbacks with something to prove" but is just the 77th most important player in the league. Here is what Pereles had to say:
"Murray's rollercoaster seven-year tenure in Arizona ended unceremoniously with a foot injury and, ultimately, the Cardinals' offense doing better without him. He landed in Minnesota on a one-year deal, and it's hard to envision a much better spot. Murray has an ace play caller in Kevin O'Connell and terrific receiving options. His ability to stay healthy, adapt to a more under-center system and throw over the middle are all questions, but if he can have at least decent success in all three, Minnesota looks like a playoff team."
Murray will have a chip on his shoulder in 2026, and the Vikings are hoping that helps him return to the form he is capable of. If he does, this team is going to overachieve compared to what everyone else is expecting.
