Liam Lawson Returns to Racing Bulls With His Future up in Question

Liam Lawson faces the Azerbaijan Grand Prix with a mix of satisfaction and uncertainty. The New Zealand driver returns to Racing Bulls after his stint as a substitute at Red Bull where he replaced the injured Isack Hadjar during three Grands Prix and left a very positive impression. However his medium-term future remains an unknown and the internal competition within the Red Bull family threatens to complicate his continuity.
Lawson's story with Red Bull is a tale of overcoming, a year and a half ago, the New Zealander competed in barely two races with the main team before being relegated to Racing Bulls, that experience was short and painful but Lawson knew how to recompose himself. His performance at Red Bull has not disappointed: in three weekends Lawson scored points on two occasions, with a seventh place in Zandvoort and a sixth in Madrid, although he did not reach Hadjar's records in the first part of the season, his adaptation was remarkable, especially considering that he had to prepare simultaneously to drive two different cars: "He has done a very good job, we all know how difficult it is to jump into a different team in a different car and I think he has done it as well as we could expect" declared Laurent Mekies, Red Bull boss.
The French director highlighted Lawson's maturity and ability to concentrate: "He has continued to grow as a driver. He is very calm in the car, he is very focused., he has managed to keep things simple in the way he interacts with the team and in how he approaches his own performance. He focuses on the essentials" Mekies added.
